by Akira Amani

Since 2012.

In 2012 whilst exhibiting my artwork in a North London gallery, a visitor remarked, whilst pointing to a piece I'd created; “I wish I could carry that canvas around with me everywhere, as I feel incredibly empowered by it ''. This comment meant so much to me as I'd created the artwork whilst overcoming a difficult time and it had brought me a lot of strength. I became determined to figure out a way I could make it so she could "carry that canvas around' with her everywhere. This led to turning my artwork into wearable pieces, so that people could be reminded of their innate strength, and feel unstoppable no matter what the day brought. Each piece has its own unique meaning and is designed to celebrate your triumphs.

Love Yourself-ies!

Akira Amani Workshops, Exhibitions & more...

After receiving a vast amount of feedback from customers about the positive effect the wearable art was having on their self esteem, I decided to create free wearable art workshops for young people during 2016-2019. This created a platform for teenagers to express themselves and design their own personalised pieces. I then curated exhibitions to showcase their work to their friends and family as well as potential buyers. Seeing the students' confidence soar and being able to work with them to bring their ideas to life was a privilege I’ll never forget.

Creating this wearable art label has also led to taking part in numerous exhibitions, craft markets, and art shows across London. Being able to engage with customers face-to-face and assist them in selecting their Akira Amani wearable art has been the most rewarding part of the entire process of designing, producing and selling. Seeing first hand how customers' faces would  light up and their body language becoming more confident as they wear their wearable art has taught me not to underestimate the impact of designing and creating artwork from the soul.

Other highlights include:

  • Being selected to showcase with Shopcade at London Fashion Week 2014.

  • Approached by Not On The High Street and distributed through them from 2012-2016.

  • Invited by Legendary to develop jewellery merchandise for the release of Guillermo del Toro's film Crimson Peak.

Reducing Waste

The offcuts (unused parts of the acrylic) produced during the production of each piece of wearable art are sent to workshops that create new acrylic sheets from the unused pieces.

The packaging of the Akira Amani wearable art is 100% reusable and recyclable, as well as being made from recycled materials.
